REVIEW:The advantages of a cordless electric trimmer are obvious: it's quieter than gas (and smells better); there's no cord to trip over; you can take it anywhere without having to worry about whether there's a socket nearby. Before you take the plunge, however, you should consider the downsides. First, a 12-volt battery can only provide so much power-you wouldn't want to use this trimmer for clearing an overgrown lot. Second, batteries have to be recharged; if you expect to do more than a half-an-hour's trimming at a time, you may run out of juice before the job's done. In short, this is the trimmer to buy if you think you'll be doing light to medium trimming jobs that take no more than 45 minutes to complete.
If your job meets these criteria, Troy Bilt's TB55B is really a pleasure to use. The straight shaft makes it easy to reach under shrubs and bushes, and the adjustable D-handle lets you use the unit left- or right-handed with equal comfort. At 12 volts, this trimmer will handle all but the thickest, wettest grass. Like most trimmers, this one features a bump-head release for easy, quick line feed on the fly.
The trimmer comes with the 12-volt battery and charger included. Make sure to follow the instructions for recharging in order to get the maximum life out of your battery. Two-year limited warranty.--Josh Dettweiler

I had this trimmer for a couple years,I Just don't like trying start those gas ones ,you know pull a million times on a foot long string that has the grunt sound and almost starts and stalls,so anyway after my weed eater brand electric smoked out I asked for 1 of theses as a Fathers Day gift and tried it out.It Is good for carrying around and not having to drag out the cords , but you learn that any thick spots such as down the edge of a driveway or you know when the grass tries to grow over the sidewalk and you try get cut it back? well those really wear out this trimmer,it good for light trimming mailboxes and on the sides of the house .but it starts loosing power quick and when trimming you need that high rpm that can really get through some thick spots .this trimmer lacks that so I had to get another corded trimmer which is a monster compared to this trimmer
Also it is heavy at the top , but for ease of use it is good for small jobs ,but don't think this is like a gas powered or a corded trimmer
it simply is not

A replacement for my elderly and ailing Ryobi 150R!I tried to replace her with TWO different grass hogs but they just didn't cut it. Can only hope that now that this unit has the troy-bilt name, issues with part availability will be resolved...otherwise, it has the reach and POWER I've come to rely on in my old Ryobi to tackle two acres of nasty weeds. The 150 lives on!
