It's not comfortable to use for anything longer than 10 minutes. The length is too short and I'm a short person. Anything after 10 minutes my back hurts from using it.

Bump & Feed doesn't work well - but many do not so I guess nothing's new here.

Perhaps with a different trimmer head, it may be better, I don't know, but I've given mine away and am onto a Stihl gas trimmer once & for all.....

 "Frustration" 2009-07-03
By John H. Murray (Toledo, OH)
This device comes with a vague instruction manual. How long is 10.5 comma? The comma appearing where you wouild normally find a foot or inch designation. If you use it with a series of short bursts like fine trimming around a circular base or series of ornamental rocks the line just keeps feeding till it gets so long it fouls upon itself with the two ends twining like caduceus snakes. If you ever need to turn your trimmer off in the coursr of your trimming. This is note a trimmer to be considered. Fairness aside: I did not have this problem with the original string. This problem was with replacement string, but still....

 "Troy Built string trimmer" 2009-06-10
By Karyn Pappert (Pittsburgh PA)
The Troy Built string trimmer is a heavy duty product, but the weight may be too much for some people especially if used over an extended period of time. The duel string spool seems unnecessary, and the Troy system of feeding line not with a bump but with a stoppage of the motor wastes much string. It's constantly feeding line every time you pause in your work. The use of oversized line (.80) seems extreme as well. That old .065 line in the garage is now a pitch. For small neighborhood lawns a smaller and lighter product would probably be a better choice.

Works much better than the previous one which easliy stopped when cutting thick grass. Feels much more powerfull and does not slow down. Heve not yet tried the shrubbver attachment but I did not intend to use it for that purpose. I would recommend this unit over the lower priced and performing units.

"Hedge Trimmer was good while it lasted. Grass shear is worthless." 2009-06-25
By Walt in Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, PA)
Have owned this for around a year and a half. The grass shear could not cut anything. I agree with another review that all you do is pull out grass. It finally would just jam the two blades whenever you tried to cut. I liked the hedge trimmer to manicure our shrubs, but now the battery is failing. This seems to be typical with Black and Decker and DeWalt Brands (the same company). I would love to find something like this for our shrubs that I can actually depend on. Don't buy this item.

"must be improved since 2008 - certainly does the job I expected it to do!" 2009-06-21
By BJH2 (Elverta, CA USA)
This product definately met my expectations and I primarily use it with the handle. My weeds (long over due for cutting) sometimes get caught in the blades, but what do you expect when they are two to three feet tall. I just rake them out of the way, see what I missed, cut again, and move on. The shear does a great job, I use it all the time. As for the battery time - works for me - the unit lasts longer than I do!

 "Worthless Junk !!!" 2009-05-24
By A. J. Macagna (New York City)
I bought this product against the advice given by the reviewers here at Amazon. I thought a reputable company like "Black & Decker" would not make an inferior product. Boy, was I wrong! This is CRAP. After charging for 16 Hr's I tried it on some grass around my shed and was shocked to see it does not cut grass. Rather, it traps grass as you pull it out. I was very annoyed at my wasted time to buy this product as well as dissapointed to see a once outstanding American company go the way of almost all American industry. DOWN THE DRAIN. (1 star because the site would not allow zero)

"Exactly as advertised - a pleasant buying experience" 2009-05-22
By Emile Bonnecaze (Plano, Texas USA)
I've had several rechargable trimmers before but the problem was always that they weren't very powerful and the batteries just wore out and stopped taking a charge. They also didn't run for long, even on a full charge. It's too early to tell if the battery longevity will be better on this more powerful model but runtime is much better and it IS more powerful. The hedge-dlipper is also a nice addition. I've got a lot of Asian Jasmine and the trimmer is great for finish work under bushes where it's hard to get a full-sized clipper. I have high hopes that this model will improve on the weaknesses of previous models.

 "fine refurb device" 2009-08-20
By Douglas Dodds (Cambridge, MA, USA)
This model was an upgrade for me, even though it was a refurb, and it has been a delight to cut my large number of hedges with it. The battery lasts just about as long as I do, before needing a recharge; the cutter is new and sharp and glides through the twigs. It's not as smooth and quiet as a new one would be, but for 1/3 the price or so, it's a great buy.

 "A pleasure to use" 2009-06-09
By Lorenzo
As a librarian I review "everything", expecting that this would be an adequate hedge trimmer with the exception that the battery life was somewhat short, and less powerful than a corded trimmer I went ahead and tried it. After a 11 hour charge I procedded to trim my yard of extensive gardens and shrubery and trees. I was pleased to find out that the battery charge lasted for over an hour of on and off starting of the trimmer to complete the whole yard of trimming. Unless you have very thich branches to cut, this, is a great trimmer to buy.

By Susan I. Ziegenhorn (Chattanooga, TN)
This is my second one in three years. My battery charger quit working,so I bought a whole new unit. I really didn't use the hedge trimmer that much and felt it should have a longer life and be of better quality. The product is lightweight and easy to use and the price is okay. All other rechargeable trimmers are more money. If the first one didn't have the battery charger problem, I would have rated the product higher.

"Black & Decker Grass Hog . Worst Trimmer Ever!!!" 2009-08-28
By Thomas Scott-nairns
Either the line feed mechanism lets out too much and it tangles up OR It does not let out any line and you are trying to cut grass with 1/2 an inch of string.

The Black & Decker Grass Hog gh700 is JUNK. I bought it because it was cheap & I hate doing yard work, So I did not want to send allot of $$. Big mistake!

The bulk of my time it spent untangling string OR Taking the sting holder apart to let out some string then putting it back together. Out of the four times I have used this trimmer not once has it worked correctly.

Worst Garden tool ever.

I am considering smashing mine with a sledge hammer, or possibly running it over with my truck. Just so I can get a little joy out of this failed purchase.

Like others have said, the so-called automatic string feed is a poorly designed piece of junk. It's not that I wound the spool wrong or something... this is straight out of the box and it won't feed at all. B&D will not be getting any more of my dough! Too bad a once respected brand has slumped to selling junk like this.

By J. Parks (Ohio)
Not only is this thing loud, but it has given me a hard time since I got it. Trying to trim the line got stuck in the ground and had to yank it out. Some of the line got caught and tangled up above the spool. I tried to take it apart but I found no way you can I have no idea what the screw is for that looks like it is holding it on, but it wasn't for that. Finally after prying it apart (taking about 45 minutes) and digging out the line, I relined it. Of course I couldn't find any duel line replacements and the single ones I found were expensive. I got regular line and wound it myself. turned it on and theline kept coming out and getting longer and longer. I threw itin the trash, gonna go this weekend and buy another one, and be sure I will be researching it carefully!

"automatic line feed does not work" 2009-05-16
By J. Barros
This automatic dual line feed system does not feed the line. I used the original spool on two weekends ... hoping it would get better ... but every 30 seocnds I had to stop and manual advance the line feed. And if one line feed was painful, the dual line feed is a lot worse to deal with.

I used the single line feed for several years and it was much better than the new GH700.

Loved the original "single feed" Hedgehog. The "twin feed" is a disaster. I spent almost as much time fiddling with the "automatic" feed as I do trimming. Line continuously jammed up motor. After 6 months, it died. I won't be buying another. Extremely poorly designed spooling. Not recommended.

 "Spool/line Advance Dont Last" 2009-07-19
By memorymaker (NYC area)
Works great for a few minutes but after some advancing, the spool tends to lock up...which you might think would work better if you didnt screw the cap on so tight...but then the little eyelet that the line feeds thru can fly off (and you have to order that online and wait a week). Which I did. But, that doesnt solve the problem...neither does WD40. Last time I used this, it took an hour to trim my short walk because I had to manually advance the line every 8 feet of work. Please do not buy this machine. I wish I had spent 3x more money to get something that simply had more than a 30 minute life to it. Such a shame that I need to throw out a perfectly good engine/handle setup because the spooling mechanism is so poorly engineered/manufactured. I looked for aftermarket replacements but they dont seem to exist. I will not buy Toro again.

"Not Really a Toro; Hope It Doesn't Break" 2009-06-09
By Lawrence W. Rand (Banning, CA)
My experience has been that Toro products are well made and dependable, but this trimmer turned out to be a flimsy Homelite trimmer in drag, according to my authorized Toro repair shop (they were having no luck getting replacement parts from Homelite). After a year, my trimmer needed a new part (the plastic cup around the cord with a guide hole in it); they wanted to charge me $38 for it, plus $25 labor! That's more than the trimmer costs and such a ripoff that I won't buy another Toro, period (needless to say, I passed on the repair).

"I do not recommend this model" 2008-05-26
By Psychiatrist (Alabama)
In general I prefer electric trimmers to gas ones. I don't mind the cord, and they are cleaner and quieter than other styles. I'm looking for a new trimmer - different brand. I used a Weed-Eater brand trimmer for years, and was very happy with it. After losing that one, I bought this one... mistake...

I have used this one for about a year - moderate use in a small suburban Texas yard. It worked well with the original spool. I have fought with the spool & string repeatedly since then. When it is time for a change, the entire mechanism gets stuck together to the point of being unworkable -- will not budge. Screwwdrivers and channel-locks only scrape up the spool worse. The long plastic bar broke in half yesterday when I tapped it on the ground to let out some more line - really cheap construction. Will never buy Toro again.

 "Hand held trimmer" 2009-07-10
By Joan Croghan (Annapolis, MD)
I have 4 bushes in the front of my house (all boxwoods) that need a good trim approximately 3-4 times in the growing season. I had been using an electric Black & Decker trimmer for 30+ years and fighting that darn cord constantly. First thing, the Worx cordless trimmer came in its original box and I was a bit concerned opening it up that something would be broken. Everything was intact. The trimmer does what it is supposed to and the charge more than lasted long enough for what I needed it for. It is not too heavy for me and I am able to maneuver it all around. I am pleased with the purchase.

 "ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!" 2009-07-08
By CMC (Tennessee)
The WORX product is alright, although the mower arrived with minor damage (poor packaging). The customer service is the worst I've ever dealt with.

After purchasing my WORX mower and grass trimmer through Amazon, I eventually needed to purchase more trimmer spools and opted for the "free" spools program (paying only shipping) offered directly from WORX customer service. In the same order, I also purchased a device from them that allows you to store the grass trimmer and it's battery on the wall of your garage.

After being charged as expected, two weeks past with no product. I contacted their customer service and was informed both products (spools and trimmer device) were on back-order but would ship in 24 to 48 hours. After another week passed, I called again and was transferred to a supervisor who sounded like he was reading from a script. He admitted the spools had not been on back-order but could not explain why I was lied to previously. He could not tell me when my order would ship saying that it was "in process". He then offered a to wave the shipping cost as though that would fix not being able to use my $100 WORX grass trimmer without the spools they sell. This supervisor then assured me he would forward my "case" to upper management and I would receive a call within the 72 business hours. It's been eight days and I've not received a call. It's been over 4 weeks since I placed the order.

Though it's for a small amount of money (less than $25), WORX customer service has essentially stolen my money and falsely advertised in selling me a product I can't obtain and they won't (or as this supervisor said to me, he "can't") tell me why!

I assume others are receiving the items they purchase from WORX. I have no idea why they can't solve my issue. I'm sincerely amazed at the incompetence and inability of this company's customer service and therefore highly recommend all consumers consider purchasing lawn products from one of WORX's competitors instead (try Black and Decker). If this is any example of how WORX is willing to do business then they deserve to go out of business. Buyer beware.

When I was thinking about buying a trimmer I researched all trimmers. Worx had the best reviews. I made the purchase, It was easy to put together, I charged the battery over night, worked about 25 minutes (continous running) before the battery needed recharging. I had to wait for the battery to cool first. After the recharge, I cut some limbs 1/2 inch in diameter. I am well pleased with my hedge trimmer.
